A review of 3 Med-Psych Case studies with Ashley Ellison, MD, Kimberly Stoner, MD, MS, FACP, and Michale Lang, MD.

Please join us for the March Installment of the AMP Webinar Series where we examine Three Med-Psych Case Studies.

1. Patient is a 27yo male with some medical co-morbidities who came into ED with a 150lb weight loss over 1 year unintentional. 

2. Patient is a 60yo female with migraines, irritable bowel syndrome and seizures who was presented out of concern for OCD. The pattern of obsessions was not classic for OCD, and the patient was instead found to have rapidly-progressive dementia which developed over a 6-month time-frame.

3. Patient is a 65yo Female with a history of bipolar affective disorder, polymyalgia rheumatica, chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, restless legs syndrome and anxiety admitted to the hospital for a right total knee revision to antibiotic spacer.  The orthopedic surgeon requests comanagement of medical comorbidities during the hospitalization and advises you, "You might be in there awhile- she is going to want to sing for you."

Ashley Ellison, MD
Dr. Ellison received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 2012. She completed her residency in combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine; in her final year of training, she served as chief resident for the Internal Medicine/Psychiatry residency program. After residency graduation, she worked on faculty at Tulane in a variety of roles including consult/liaison at New Orlean’s VA hospital, supervisor at the outpatient resident med/psych clinic and associate program director for Tulane’s combined residency program. She then moved back to North Carolina and worked as an inpatient consult/liaison hospitalist for 2 years. Since 2021, she works at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in a dual med/psych role. Her roles include answering psychiatric e-consult questions, providing lectures on psychiatric topics to specialty and primary care clinics and treating med/psych patients in her primary care clinic. She is involved with AMP as a co-chair of the medical student committee.


Kimberly Stoner, MD, MS, FACP
Dr. Stoner received her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She completed her combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry residency at the University of Iowa. She moved to Milwaukee for an Academic Fellowship in Primary Care Research during which she completed her master's degree in epidemiology. She then joined the Medical College of Wisconsin as a clinician educator with a primary appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine and a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. She has divided her clinical time between the inpatient perioperative medicine consult service and the inpatient psychiatry consultation liaison service for the past 15 years.  She is currently transitioning into Froedtert Hospital's new Complexity Intervention Unit to care for hospitalized patients with medical and psychiatric comorbidity. 


Michael Lang, MD
Dr. Lang was born and raised in Ahoskie, NC and has called Eastern North Carolina home all his life.  He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1995 and came to ECU as a lab technician and post-baccalaureate student.  He was admitted to medical school and then joined the combined internal medicine/psychiatry residency in 2002.  Upon graduation in 2007 he joined the faculty in the Depts of Medicine and Psychiatry and has worked himself up the ladder to Training Director of the Med/Psych program since 2013, then Vice Chair of Psychiatry 2019-2022, and most recently Chair of the Dept Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine since February 2022.  He is dual boarded in Medicine and Psychiatry and holds additional certifications on ECT and TMS. He has been a champion of integrated care and currently serves as the President-Elect of the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry.  He is married with 3 beautiful children.
