Updates from SIU Med-Psych Program

Greetings from Springfield, Illinois. Here's what we've been up to lately!

One of our first year Medicine-Psychiatry residents, Dr. Anshul Pandey, has successfully completed 4 months of Internal Medicine, and started psychiatry rotations in November 2015. When Dr. Pandey transitions back to the Internal Medicine service in March 2016, his cohort, Dr. Nicole Abbot, will begin her psychiatry rotations after being in Internal Medicine for 8 months.

Dr. Kristen Lee (PGY-III) will begin her 1-year outpatient psychiatric clinic experience in March 2016. Dr. Dorcas Adaramola (PGY-IV) presented the article "Systematic review with meta-analysis: the risk of major gastrointestinal bleeding with non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants" for Med-Psych's November Journal Club. For December's Journal Club, Dr. Chenelle Joseph (PGY-IV) presented the article "Efficacy of Bright Light Treatment, Fluoxetine, and the Combination in Patients with Nonseasonal Major Depressive Disorder". Dr. Shreedhar Kulkarni (PGY-V) will complete his combined training at the end of December 2015, and begin his Pulmonary fellowship at SIU School of Medicine starting January 1st, 2016.

Dr. Chenelle Joseph (PGY-IV) also serves as the current Chief Resident of the SIU Psychiatry department (started March 2015) and will complete her term on February 28, 2016. For the House Staff Board of Directors, Dr. Chenelle Joseph (PGY-IV) serves as the primary representative for the Med-Psych residents, and Dr. Kristen Lee (PGY-III) serves as the alternate representative. Dr. Dorcas Adaramola (PGY-IV) currently serves as the Med-Psych Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) representative.

On December 4th 2015, a winter drive for the Community Support Network (CSN), a psychosocial rehabilitation program which strives to support individuals with severe and chronic mental illnesses (approximately 70 individuals), was successfully coordinated by Dr. Chenelle Joseph (PGY-IV) through the "Women in Medicine" group which is based in the Department of Internal Medicine (see photo below; Dr. Chenelle Joseph is 3rd from the left). Dr. Nicole Abbot (PGY-I) and Dr. Dorcas Adaramola (PGY-IV) are also members of "Women in Medicine".
