Medical Director/Psychiatrist: Enjoy small-town living and amazing outdoor recreation just steps away!

Live where you love… love where you work. Welcome to Idaho.

Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has two new openings for a MEDICAL DIRECTOR/PSYCHIATRIST and a STAFF PSYCHIATRIST at our state hospital in scenic North Idaho.

State Hospital North is a 55-bed adult psychiatric hospital in Orofino, Idaho – a charmingly small town nestled along the Clearwater River, with mountains and forests close by. You'll enjoy a flexible schedule (with potential for some telepsych), cutting-edge technology, supportive management and clinical staff, and ongoing professional development and training.

As a SHN Psychiatrist, you will be able to provide direct psychiatric evaluations and treatment in an in-patient setting, watch your patients stabilize and improve enough to return to community settings, and provide psychiatric consultation to staff and community partners… and of course, observe our resident deer and wildlife on your lunch break. You can focus on providing quality care, not quotas, length of stay, billing, or other administrative concerns.

Additionally, our Medical Director will be able to lead a team of mental health professionals and have a key role in shaping the direction and treatment provided by the hospital.

We have approximately 135 dedicated employees who will work beside you to provide treatment for adults in psychiatric crisis – and who might also challenge you to an annual "Kiss the Goat" fundraising campaign for United Way! Our physicians, mid-levels, psychologists, nursing staff, and support services work together to make a difference for some of Idaho's most vulnerable and underserved citizens, and take a team approach to providing treatment.

Idaho offers spectacular scenery, limitless outdoor recreation, a competitive benefits package (including loan repayment up to $75k and a top-rated retirement plan), and a true work-life balance that is hard to come by in today's world. Other recruitment incentives and on-site housing may be available, and bigger city amenities are just a short drive away.
