The UC San Diego Combined Family Medicine Psychiatry Residency program is searching for a Residency Director.
The UC San Diego Combined Family Medicine Psychiatry Residency program was founded in 1997 and has graduated a total of 26 residents. It has become on of the top Family Medicine Psychiatry Residency programs in the country.
The UC San Diego Combined Residency is a partnership between UC San Diego and St. Vincent de Paul Village, which is the largest homeless services agency in San Diego. The primary outpatient clinic for the residency is the clinic based in St. Vincent’s homeless shelter, that houses up to 850 people, including 100 families and 150 children. This clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and provides care to people who are living at St. Vincents or other area shelters or are homeless on the street. Residents in this program benefit from the combination of a strong academic medical center and a community clinic.
The UC San Diego Combined Residency attracts top medical students from around the US, and has maintained a full compliment of 10 residents for the past 10 years. The students who match into the combined residency are dedicated to providing comprehensive medical and psychiatric care to underserved populations, and most of the graduates work in FQHCs or other underserved settings.
We are looking for a Residency Director to continue the tradition of training residents to be excellent physicians dedicated to providing outstanding care to underserved patients. The ideal candidate would be board certified in both Family Medicine and Psychiatry, have at least 5 years of leadership experience, and share the commitment to underserved medicine.
This position would include a faculty appointment at UC San Diego. There is funded administrative time to run the combined residency, and the successful candidate would also be expected to provide clinical care at St. Vincents and likely also in the UC San Diego Health Care System. There is a total of .5 FTE funded to direct the Combined Residency, divided between the Director and Associate Directors.
