Presentation Objectives:

• Gain a better understanding of what clinical health psychologists (CHPs) are and what we do;
• Identify 1-2 patient issues that CHPs can address to improve patient care, treatment outcomes, etc.;
• Identify 1-2 behavioral interventions CHPs can provide as part of integrative patient care.

Speaker: Ashley J. Britton, PhD

Dr. Ashley Britton is a licensed clinical health psychologist. She earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology, with a Health Psychology emphasis, from the University of Georgia. In addition, she completed a Clinical Health Psychology internship at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI and a Clinical Psychology/ Behavioral Medicine Fellowship at MUSC in Charleston, SC. 

Dr. Britton joined the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine, at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, as a Clinical Assistant Professor in July 2019. Presently, she serves as the Clinical Training Liaison for the outpatient psychiatry clinic’s Health Psychology Service and as one of the Psychiatry C/L service attendings. She provides direct patient care, clinical training, mentoring, consultation, education, and supervision of clinical psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and medical students. In addition, her clinical practice focuses on pre-surgical psychological evaluation and psychological care for patients with co-occurring chronic medical conditions. Finally, her research has primarily focused on behavioral medicine interventions for managing chronic medical conditions, health disparities, and psychosocial variables affecting health outcomes.
