Join Drs. Jacqueline N Williams and Jasmine E. Shell as they discuss Equity in Addiction Medicine Treatment.

Objectives:

  • Explore the issue of Racial and Cultural inequities in Addiction Medicine
  • Review articles discussing the causes and potential solutions to unequal care for patients with Substance Use Disorders (SUD)
  • Explore personal experience as minority women in the field of Addiction Medicine
  • Encourage dialogue with other providers about their experience with implicit bias in medicine

Dr. Jacqueline N. Williams is a Diplomate in Good standing with: The American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, The American Board of Preventive Medicine – Addiction, and The Addiction Board of Addiction Medicine. As a solo practitioner for J. Williams, MD LLC, she is licensed to provide mental health services to residents of GA, FL, MI, NC, NY, OH, and SC.
Dr. Williams received her undergraduate degree in Psychology, with a Minor in Biochemistry from Spelman College and received her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She completed her residency training in Psychiatry at Medical College of Georgia. During her fourth year of residency, she was named Chief Resident.
Dr. Williams is a Fellow of both American Psychiatric Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

 

Jasmine E. Shell, MD, MPH

Jasmine E. Shell, MD, MPH Dr. Jasmine Shell is board-certified in Preventive Medicine and Addiction Medicine and currently practices Addiction Medicine at both WellStar-MCG and Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. She received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Louisiana State University and received her medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine. After completing her Preventive Medicine training, she attended the Addiction Medicine fellowship here at MCG and now serves as the Assistant Program Director of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship.

Victoria Tann, MDHarsimran is currently an M4 at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine (HMSOM), and he is interested in applying into Internal Medicine and Psychiatry Combined Residency programs. He would like to utilize his combined training in IM-Psych to focus on the care of underserved and LGBTQIA+ populations with a  goal of opening up an LGBTQIA+ clinic that provides medical and mental health services. 

Harsimran received his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley where he double majored in French and Molecular and Cellular Biology with an emphasis in Biochemistry.  Harsimran graduated with honors and was distinguished for “Outstanding Achievement in the field of French”. Additionally, he minored in the Chinese language and was a Huang scholarship recipient which allowed him opportunities to study abroad in Mainland China and Taiwan. After completing his undergraduate studies, Harsimran pursued a Master’s degree in French Studies at the Institute of French Studies at New York University. 

 Harsimran is one of the founders of the HMSOM Culture and Language Exchange group, and one of the former leaders of the Medical Student Pride Alliance.  In his free time, Harsimran teaches Dance Fitness classes and cooks foods from around the world.
