Join AMP Members Dr. Lauren Gensler, Dr. Trygve Dolber, and Dr. Victoria Tann as they review three intriguing Med-Psych case studies.

1. When obsessions and compulsions interfere with lupus treatment, complications and symptoms quickly spiral into complexity and impair patient-provider relationships.

2. A patient with schizophrenia and a history of substance use disorder presents with altered mental status.

Lauren Gensler, MD

Lauren Gensler Headshot

Lauren M. Gensler, MD is a physician with Emory University School of Medicine.  She is an assistant professor in both the Departments of General Medicine and Psychiatry, and her clinical work is performed at Grady Memorial Hospital. At Grady, she is the Medical Director of the Medicine and Psychiatry Unit (MPU) and spends all her clinical time on the unit. Prior to working on the MPU, she had other roles at Grady including medical director of an inpatient medicine unit, supervising residents in both Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, and providing clinical care for patients on Internal Medicine units and Psychiatric Emergency Room. Throughout her time, Dr. Gensler has participated in resident and medical student education via mentorship, lectures, and development of integrated electives. Dr. Gensler is a member of the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry and is the co-chair of the Association’s annual meeting committee. Dr. Gensler's clinical work is focused on integrated medical and psychiatric care with special focus on social determinants of health. 

 

Trygve Dolbere, MD

Trygve Dolber, MD headshotDr. Dolber, is the medical director of a personalized care program for patients with high medical risk and strained relationships with the health care system. He is also the interim director of addiction recovery services at University Hospitals and supports primary care practices utilizing behavioral approaches to cardiometabolic disease throughout Ohio. He serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and completed his training in psychiatry and internal medicine at Emory University.

 

 

Victoria Tann, MD

Dr. Tann was born anVictoria Tann, MDd raised in Columbus, Ohio.  She completed my undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University with a double major in Microbiology and Spanish. She then completed medical school at the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio.  Dr. Tann moved to Iowa City, Iowa, and completed the FM-Psych combined program from 2015 to 2020.  Since graduation, she has worked as a staff physician at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. For her first 3 years of practice, she saw her patients in outpatient family medicine and psychiatry clinics and participated in residency education. Currently, she practices outpatient psychiatry on the assertive community treatment team. Also, she sees psychiatric consults for people living with HIV in a co-located psych clinic within the ID clinic.  She is the Associate Program Director of the FMP residency program at the University of Iowa.  While Dr. Tann no longer has a dedicated outpatient family medicine clinic, she still uses her family medicine skills in her outpatient psychiatry practice.
